Dr. Jonathan Citow, Chief of Neurosurgery, Condell Medical Center

Dr. Jonathan Citow is currently 37 years old and is already the chief of neurosurgery at Condell medical Center where he has, in a very short time, developed it into one of the best programs in the state. He has performed over a thousand complex surgeries with outstanding results and remains on the cutting edge of technological advances. He has developed some instrumentation that makes spinal surgery safer and more effective
(patents pending).

Despite his heavy clinical workload, he has published 5 major neurosurgical textbooks as well as numerous clinical papers in the journals, His first book is now standard issue in every neurosurgery training program both in the United States and abroad. Dr. Citow was contacted by Dr. Yury Kushel of the Burdenko Neurosurgical Institute in Moscow to ask permission to use his book to create a neurosurgery board  exam in Russia where, today, there is no requirement for a board exam. His most rescent text was the best seller of the recent American Association of Neurological Surgery meeting in San Diego in April. He is also active on the editorial board of the journal Spinal Cord based out of London.

On a personal note, he is married (wife Karen) with two young children, Benjamin and Emma and still manages to find time to run and lift weights 5 days a week. He recently completed the Chicago marathon. Other passions include windsurfing, scuba diving, and downhill skiing. He is also a gourmet chef, specializing in Asian cuisine.

Despite all these accomplishments at such a young age, his patients find him very pleasant and approachable. Most of the doctors and nurses, as well as their family members come to him for their surgeries. Dr Citow has treated patients from through the US as well as internationally. Most recently, an Abbott Labs executive from Belgium traveled to the US for a complex brain surgery.
