Dr. Alzate featured on Telemundo

Telemundo Chicago

Dr. Alzate was recently featured on Telemundo Chicago for his role in saving the life of a pregnant woman and her unborn baby.

The patient came to the emergency room with acute headaches and signs of neurological deficit.  She was 34 weeks pregnant at the time and imaging revealed a life threatening brain bleed (cerebellar hematoma).  She required emergency surgery to save her life and the baby's life.  Dr. Alzate worked hand in hand with the obstetrician to quickly develop a plan that would provide the best possible chance for both.  An emergency ceserean section was performed and the moment after the baby was delivered, Dr. Alzate performed a craniotomy to control the brain bleed.  The mother and baby left the hospital a few days later and are doing great.
