Traffic Alert - Milwaukee Avenue

From the Village of Libertyville:

Recently performed emergency rail repairs by METRA RR on their track at IL Route 21 (Milwaukee Ave) South of Winchester Rd in Libertyville, Lake County resulted in railroad track grade restoration at an improper elevation (too high). This improper rail elevation has caused an extremely rough crossing grade condition on IL Route 21 at this location which requires immediate correction by METRA. To facilitate METRA Railroad’s correction of this condition IL Route 21 (Milwaukee Ave) will be fully closed at the METRA Railroad crossing south of Winchester Rd in Libertyville, Lake County beginning at 6:00AM, Saturday, May 17, 2014 until Monday evening, May 19, 2014. The exact time of the roadway re-opening on Monday will be dependent upon completion of their work, but the roadway will be re-opened as soon as possible. The posted detour for the closure will be as follows:

SB IL Route 21 Traffic will be directed to turn Right (west) on either IL Route 137 (Peterson Rd) or Winchester Rd (local alternate), west on IL Route 137 or Winchester Rd to left turn (south) on Butterfield Rd., south on Butterfield Rd to left turn (east) on IL Route 176, east on IL Route 176 back to IL Route 21. NB IL Route 21 Traffic will be directed to turn left (west) on IL Route 176, west on IL Route 176 to right (north) on Butterfield Rd, North on Butterfield Rd to right (east) on either Winchester Rd (local alternate) or IL Route 137 (Peterson Rd), east on Winchester Rd of IL Route 137 back to IL Route 21.

As there is other ongoing roadway construction in the area and along the detour routes significant delays can be expected due to this closure and motorists are encouraged to avoid the area if at all possible, to use alternate routes and/or allow for
additional travel time.
